All That’s Left of a Man
Speeding down Cass Ave over sinkholes and half
patched craters past dead diners boarded buildings
infested apartments dying party stores and vacant lots
past an empty grey tweed scarf houndstooth jacket and
apple cap stretched out in a sopping puddle on a sidewalk
past a red wigged middle of the street woman waving
down a stunted hatchback past muddy yellow weed
choked vacant lots that host oil drum fires where bundled
up folks warm themselves and share a bottle past a church
dinner line of women clutching tiny blue hands while
shouting greetings up ahead as their fog white breaths
hover keeping time and space past old young men hurtling
forward, heads bowed, shoulders twisted against the wind
