Call for manuscripts: the A.V. Christie Series

We welcome poetry manuscripts during the month of February for our annual A.V. Christie Series for women-identifying writers over the age of 50. Two manuscripts will be selected for publication. A $10 donation entitles you to either title in this series, or a copy of A.V. Christie’s The Wonders–or you may opt to receive one of the new titles when they are released this summer. Find full guidelines here.

A.V. Christie Series selections

We are grateful to this year’s guest judge, Nathalie Anderson, for selecting the first two manuscripts to appear in our new A. V. Christie Series. Nathalie selected The Square Where Ariadne Sleeps by Catherine Bancroft and Trail of Roots by Gail Thomas. Catherine’s and Gail’s chapbooks were selected from sixty manuscripts–a very strong response for our series launch–and will be published this fall.

Thanks also to our reader, Diana Becket. Your care and attention is greatly appeciated.

Please join us in congratulating these poets and their work!

Announcing the A.V. Christie Chapbook Series

We are thrilled to announce the first of two new chapbook series launching this year, both for women writers.

The A.V. Christie Chapbook Series seeks original, unpublished poetry manuscripts by women writers over the age of 50. This series honors the vision of poet & teacher A.V. Christie and is being launched in 2022 thanks to the generous donations of A.V.’s friends and colleagues. We are especially proud to offer this series in her memory as part of our long-term commitment to publish women and other traditionally underrepresented voices, with the goal of making them a significant majority of our catalog.

Manuscripts will be considered annually during the month of February. This year, Nathalie Anderson will serve as the final judge. Full guidelines are available here.

Mistakes with Strangers launches today

Mistakes with Strangers, the new chapbook by Jeff Oaks, is officially published today! Number 7 in Volume Two of our Editor’s Series and hot on the heels of A.V. Christie’s The Wonders, which came out July 1, we (I) are (am) folding, cutting, and sewing a big ol’ batch of preordered copies–thank you, everyone!–and will have all those out by this weekend. Then it’s a merry-go-round assembly of several titles by Steven Alvarez, Christina Pacosz, Kevin McLellan, Christina Hutchins, Will Woolfitt, Dave Bonta, Heather Burns, Jeffery Ethan Lee. . . you get the picture: we need volunteers/ interns/ elves. If anyone knows anyone in the area who’d like to help assemble chapbooks and talk poetry, drop me a line (ron dot mohring at gmail dot com). And thank you, thank you all, for helping Seven Kitchens hang together through seven years and sixty (!) chapbooks.
